Lumion Free

Lumion Free. Genuine videogame-like real-time 3D software, albeit really intended for architects…

“Lumion Free is for non-commercial use only. Lumion Free still allows you to save your projects and there’s no time limit.”

Limited libraries, and “a Watermark in output” are drawbacks of this free version. But the highest resolution is 1920 x 1080px, which seems good enough to learn on. And I wonder if you might get around the watermark by taking 1920px screenshots? Or by using FRAPS, since it runs on a game engine? I’ll let readers know, once I’ve download it.

Regrettably, cost-wise, the only next step up after Free is Lumion 2.1 Basic at $1,000. Perhaps Lumion need to look at invisible steganographic watermarking to enforce a “non-commercial use” consumer ‘landscape creation’ edition at $250? They could surely recoup the lost income by setting up a DAZ-like content marketplace for it?

The download can be had after signing up at the site, and is a 650mb torrent (very slow, current eta is 2 days). I’m downloading it now…
